Unlike other Essential oil based products, Citriodiol has passed the most rigorous safety and efficacy tests. While often characterised as cosmetics or personal care products, insect repellents generally require much more stringent testing and regulatory approval including human health and environmental risk assessments by relevant authorities. In some jurisdictions, such as the European Union, insect repellents are actually classified as biocides and are evaluated alongside other insecticides under the Biocidal Products Regulations (BPR)
